“Solving bigger and bigger problems as fast as possible, this is what massive parallel supercomputers are designed to do. I have spent many years at the head of a research team, and afterwards of a whole laboratory addressing such huge queuing systems.
Research is a painstaking work, every idea and step forward has to be questioned and challenged. But the essence of scientific research is fascinating, because it is always a team achievement. I can remember many times when my team and I were all together in front of a whiteboard or around a table playing with an idea or a hypothesis, each one of us being galvanized by the others, and I have no words to describe my emotion each time a new piece of theory finally came out due to collective dynamics. Such team spirit, and the conviction that knowledge arises only from cooperation, that is what I believe, and has been my fuel throughout the years.

Everybody is familiar with the web, with emails and social networks. But let us talk about something else, global finance. It is obvious that global finance would not be such a strategic issue in world geopolitics without the tremendous opportunities offered by the web and big data processing. Nowadays, data processing is spreading throughout our lives, and definitely changing our ways of thinking and acting. You can be sure that there shall be other such revolutions. People should not be passive spectators to this situation. On the contrary, they should be ready to take advantage of such revolutions. This shall only be possible if everyone can have access to basic scientific education and culture, from the very first years at school. Simply to understand what is on the way in order to be able to deal with forthcoming changes. This is a great challenge for all education systems. Another challenge, as old as the hills, is to build a new society, where men and women will be able to find their own places.”
